Topic: How to do a cover of any songs ?

Hi everyone !

I want to do a cover of anime songs but I want to know how.Indeed, I've seen many cover but I want to know how to do that. I imagine it's not easier than to cut a song in many parts and associate these parts on button. I would like to have a tutorial if you have or many explications and tips

Thanks everyone

How to cover songs - TUTORIAL:

There's 2 Ways. The right way and the shit way.

Shit way: Slice2Midi
Take the song, slice it into equal bits and map each bit to a button. Press it one by one and the song plays back. This is bullshit.
Please don't do this or everyone including your mum and dog will hate you. It sounds terrible, requires no skill and sucks.

Right way: Actual Cover
- Option 1 (often sounds not too great - always possible):
- Take the Song
- Cut individual sounds (try to cut them where they appear on their own so you get the cleanest version)
- Filter them to make them sound clear (otherwise it'll def. sound bad)

- Option 2 (sounds better - often possible):
- Take Instrumental and Acapella of the Song
--- If you only find the Instrumental, you can get the Acapella via Phase Inversion
----- Phase Inversion also works the opposite way - Take Song and Acapella to create Instrumental
- Cut individual sounds (try to cut them where they appear on their own so you get the cleanest version)
- Filter them to make them sound clear (otherwise it'll def. sound bad)

- Option 3 (sounds best - rarely possible):
- Take Stems of the Song (most Artists don't share these outside of Remix-Contests)
--- Good resources are Splice, Remixcomps, Metapop,  and Spinning Records.
--- For unknown/small artists simply asking may get you the Stems if you're nice.
--- Don't confuse Stems with Native Instruments' new file format STEM
--- If you only find the Instrumental, you can get the Acapella via Phase Inversion
- Cut individual sounds (try to cut them where they appear on their own so you get the cleanest version) (Super easy with Stems)
- Filter them to make them sound clear (if necessery)

- Option 4 (sounds pretty good too if made well):
- Remake the Song
OR
- Take someone elses Project / Remake
AND get the individual sounds.

Either way you'll have to map the sounds to buttons and figure out a nice and playable layout. Possibly you'll have to adjust the loudness of each of the sounds so the mix is clear, crisp and true to the original. Then it's all just practice, practice, practice.

Note regarding Acapellas / Vocals: These shouldn't be cut and rather triggered in big segments, otherwise they just sound chopped up.
Note regarding Practicing: Record yourself in a MIDI Track and fix anything you misspressed manually. You can then replay it so it shows you the lights making it easier to practice.

Best project making tutorial I've seen
Or at the very least a way to avoid slice to midi
